Sex, drugs, bacon rolls & that secret fridge door – The Breakfast Club Cafe
Wake up and smell the coffee, the full English breakfast is something very popular in the British and American culture. There’s something about those fry-ups, to smooth our hangovers or simply the sheer pleasure of fried bacon, eggs, and beans aroma that fills the air.
One early Saturday morning, just before a surprise spa date with the girls. V and I went to the Spitalfields branch. Queues were already forming. We waited for 20 minutes to be seated. The first thing you will notice is the glaring red neo sign that reads “sex, drugs, & bacon rolls”. The décor is uber cool, suited for the hip area of Shoreditch/Bethnal Green area.
On a research on recent reviews, it was advised to order a smoothie jug. Wise choice, the jug filled to the rim, ice cold, with nothing but ice-blended fruit.
There’s something about eggs benedict, and me. Once my eyes glimpsed on those two words on the menu, I would automatically order it. To fill me up I also ordered some home-style fried potatoes.
The eggs benedict were good, large portions, plenty of meat and sauce, but it was the fried potatoes that stood out. Similar to roast potatoes, it was infused with the power of botanical herbs.
The breakfast club café is a great place for all day breakfast, American style pancakes, for a lazy Sunday or casual brunch, but wait there’s a secret fridge I’ve mentioned. Yes, go to the staff and mouth a secret password. Just like “ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” step inside the fridge to the other side and descend down the flight of stairs to find “the mayor of scaredy cat town” bar.
